Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK), in partnership with Nablus Technical and Vocational Education and Training University, organized a virtual roundtable session via Zoom as part of the activities of the FLAVEAT Project, funded by the European Union.
The session aimed at promoting dialogue and knowledge exchange in the fields of food legislation and technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
The roundtable is considered one of the project’s key activities, providing an interactive platform to showcase educational innovations and foster dialogue among experts and stakeholders in food law and vocational education.
PTUK was represented by Dr. Wafaa Masoud, Lecturer at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Project Coordinator, along with Prof. Nawaf Abu Khalaf, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, and Dr. Mahmoud Jazar, faculty member in the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
The session also included representatives from the Palestinian Food Industries Union, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the National Agricultural Research Center, and the Palestinian Standards Institution, in addition to students from participating universities.
Dr. Wafaa Masoud opened the session with welcoming remarks, presenting an overview of the project and its objectives. Dr. Mahmoud Jazar delivered a presentation on the FLAVEAT project and its role in advancing TVET systems in the field of food legislation. Prof. Nawaf Abu Khalaf also introduced the “Postharvest Handling Management” MOOC, alongside a presentation of the “Human Nutrition” course developed by the partner university.
The session featured an engaging discussion on the current state of food legislation in Palestine and the importance of developing specialized academic courses to support students and relevant institutions. Discussions emphasized enhancing food quality and safety, as well as aligning educational outcomes with labor market needs.
At the conclusion of the session, participants stressed the importance of continued collaboration between universities and official institutions to strengthen knowledge in food law and support the development of modern educational programs in this vital sector.
