Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie achieved outstanding success at the Fifth Annual Conference of the Palestinian Student Scholarship Fund (PSSF), hosted by Bethlehem University from May 10–12, 2026, with the participation of PSSF board members, representatives of Palestinian higher education institutions, and presidents of partner universities.
The university participated with a delegation headed by the University President Prof. Hussein Shanak, alongside Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Alaa Issa, Dr. Ghadeer Darbas from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Director of Public Relations Mr. Omar Jouda, the university’s PSSF coordinator Ms. Dyala Ibrahim, Head of the Public Relations and Media Department Mr. Muhannad Al-Shaer, Mr. Mohammad Bdir from the Deanship of Student Affairs, and dozens of PTUK students participating in the conference competitions.
PTUK won first place in the Strength and Strive Competition through the “Basira” initiative, supervised by the PSSF Coordinator Ms. Dyala Ibrahim and the PTUK Staff Mr. Khalil Abu Olba.
The initiative is an integrated program aimed at creating safe spaces for displaced children through psychological support, education, and creative activities. It seeks to help children regain self-confidence, continue learning, and experience a sense of safety despite the difficult conditions they face.
The initiative was implemented by students Jawad Qaballawi, Hala Al-Shomali, and Areen Hamdan, who presented an inspiring youth model combining humanitarian work with impactful community initiatives.
In addition, PTUK secured second place in the Innovation Competition for the project “KROMI: Intelligent System for Detecting Grape Leaf Diseases.”
The project utilizes artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies to analyze images of grape leaves, identify disease types and infection severity, and provide treatment recommendations that help farmers intervene early and reduce crop losses.
The system is designed to operate efficiently in real agricultural environments and features a user-friendly interface suitable for immediate field use, reflecting the university’s commitment to innovation and supporting the agricultural sector.
The project was developed by students Shadi Sbeih, Mohammad Abu Hassan, Omar Abu Hajji, Waleed Anwar, and Osayd Freihat from the Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, under the supervision of Dr. Hadi Khaliliah as the principal supervisor and Prof. Mazen Salman as co-supervisor.
Prof. Hussein Shanak praised PTUK students for their excellence, creativity, and strong competitive spirit, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the university’s continuous efforts to empower students, refine their skills, and foster innovation.
He noted that PTUK students represent an inspiring model of Palestinian youth capable of creating impact and achieving success despite challenges.
Prof. Shanak added that the university places students at the center of its strategic vision and is committed to providing a stimulating educational environment that supports creativity, entrepreneurship, and active community engagement.
This achievement further reinforces PTUK’s distinguished academic and innovative standing, while reflecting the ambition and determination of its students to excel and proudly represent Palestine in national and international forums.
