PTUK Participates in SHIFT-MED Project Meeting to Strengthen Green Governance in Partner Universities

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie participated in the latest coordination meeting of the SHIFT-MED project partners, titled “Shaping the Future of Universities: Dual Transitions across the Mediterranean,” which focused on reviewing the progress achieved within Work Package 2 (WP2) related to strengthening institutional capacities for green governance in participating higher education institutions.

The university was represented at the meeting by a team of academics and administrators including Prof. Rana Samara, Dr. Ahmad Ammar, Dr. Mahmoud Ismaeel, and Dr. Mutamid Al-Khatib. The team reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting sustainability initiatives and enhancing environmentally responsible administrative and operational practices across campus.

During the meeting, partners discussed the completion of sustainability committees within participating institutions, including the University of Kairouan, the University of Jendouba, the Center of Excellence, An-Najah National University, and PTUK. Discussions also addressed the completion of the terms of reference for these committees and the development of institutional action plans that will guide sustainability initiatives and strengthen environmental governance across partner universities.

Preparations for upcoming capacity-building training sessions under Task 2.2 also formed a key part of the discussions. These sessions will focus on topics such as sustainability leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and resource management, with the aim of enhancing institutional leadership in green transformation initiatives.

In this context, project partners were invited to contribute to a joint planning document that includes proposals for training topics, speakers, and suggested schedules, ensuring the development of a comprehensive training program tailored to the needs of participating institutions.

PTUK’s participation in this international project reflects its active role in supporting green and digital transformation in higher education, while promoting sustainability principles and environmental governance among partner universities across the Mediterranean region.
