Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) has achieved a new international milestone, adding to its growing record in global university rankings. The University recorded a significant advancement in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026, moving up to the 301–400 global band out of 1,603 participating universities worldwide.
This marks a notable improvement compared to its previous position in the 401–600 band, reaffirming the success of its institutional vision and ongoing efforts to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhance its academic, research, and societal impact at both national and international levels.
This achievement reflects the University’s continued upward trajectory across global ranking systems and its commitment to aligning education, research, and community engagement with the SDGs. It further strengthens PTUK’s position among influential universities worldwide and reinforces its role as one of the leading higher education institutions in Palestine and the region working toward sustainable development impact.
PTUK recorded outstanding performance across several SDG indicators. It ranked 41st globally in SDG 4 (Quality Education), achieving one of its strongest global results in this category. This reflects the high quality of its academic programs, the competence of its academic and research staff, and its success in providing an advanced and inclusive learning environment aligned with future educational needs.
The University also ranked 51st globally in SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), reflecting the implementation of an integrated system for sustainable resource management and the promotion of recycling, reuse, and resource efficiency practices across the campus.
In the area of clean energy and environmental sustainability, PTUK achieved 90th place globally in SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), highlighting its commitment to sustainable energy solutions and the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure. In addition, it ranked within the 101–200 band globally in SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), recognizing its advanced efforts in water management, conservation, and sustainable usage practices.
Prof. Hussein Shanak, President of Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, stated that this achievement represents a major milestone in the University’s international journey and reflects the success of its institutional strategy aimed at improving the quality of education, advancing scientific research, and strengthening its position in global rankings.
He said that PTUK’s advancement to the 301–400 global band in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings confirms the University’s steady progress toward establishing a strong presence among globally influential institutions. He emphasized that the integrated institutional efforts across all university components are now yielding tangible results in international recognition and global competitiveness.
He added that achieving 41st place globally in SDG 4 (Quality Education) is a particularly significant accomplishment, as it reflects the core mission of the University in delivering high-quality education that makes a real impact on students and society. It also demonstrates the continued development of PTUK’s academic programs and its educational and research systems.
Prof. Shanak further noted that the University’s strong performance in clean energy, responsible consumption, and water management demonstrates that sustainability has become an integral part of its institutional culture and operational strategy. He stressed that sustainability at PTUK is no longer a theoretical concept but a daily practice embedded in education, research, infrastructure, and community service.
He also emphasized the national significance of this achievement, noting that it demonstrates the ability of Palestinian universities to compete at the highest international levels despite challenging circumstances. It reflects the dedication of academic, administrative, and research staff, and affirms the belief that investment in knowledge and innovation is the pathway toward development and a better future.
Assistant President for International Rankings, Quality, and Accreditation, Prof. Saed Malak, stated that these results are the outcome of sustained institutional efforts focused on developing policies, procedures, and practices aligned with the SDGs, as well as strengthening a culture of measurement, documentation, and continuous improvement across the University.
He said that PTUK’s strong global performance across multiple SDG indicators reflects the integration of efforts across faculties, centers, and administrative units, and demonstrates the University’s ability to translate its sustainability commitment into measurable, internationally recognized outcomes.
He added that the University will continue to enhance its performance across international ranking systems and expand its contribution to achieving applicable sustainable development goals, in line with its strategic plan and vision to strengthen its global presence and establish itself as a leading technical university with sustainable academic, developmental, and societal impact.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are among the world’s most influential global university rankings. They evaluate universities based on their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, measuring their performance in education, research, environmental impact, economic contribution, and community engagement. Progress in these rankings is therefore considered a strong indicator of institutional quality and sustainable global impact.
