Major Discussion with Renowned Experts to Develop Plant Disease Control

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie received on Monday October 9, 2018 the Dutch expert Prof. Freddy Tjallingiiand the Palestinian Researcher, Dr. Murad Ghannam, a Professor in Entomology to discuss cooperation and develop the scientific research in the University .
The Deanship of Scientific Research organized a workshop in presence of the Dean, Dr. Rana Samara along with the academic staff in the university to discuss a research study, conducted by Prof. Freddy Tjallingii, about the behavior of the sucking aphids using an Electrical Penetration Graph EPG device; the study epitomizes the general idea of the device and the possible uses including plants resistance of insects infestation, virus transmission, and the fundamental interactions between plants and insects.
Dr. Ghannam reviewed the “major factors of plant pathogens transmission by insect vectors using molecular biology” explaining the most viral and bacterial pathogens that transmit diseases to the Palestinian crops and means of control using gene inhibition.
Dr. Samara briefed a presentation about the EPG System and its uses studying the transmission of non – persistent viral pathogens and the impact of summer horticultural oil in plant virus transmission.
