A Strategic Transformation Reinforcing PTUK’s Global Research Presence

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) has achieved a major strategic milestone in its research trajectory with the inclusion of the Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie Research Journal in the global Scopus database, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious abstract and citation indexing platforms.

This qualitative achievement repositions the University on the international research map and reflects its transition from institutional development to global impact in knowledge production.

The journal’s inclusion in Scopus represents high-level international recognition of the robust research and editorial framework established by the University in recent years. It affirms the maturity of PTUK’s research governance, transparency, and publication ethics, in alignment with rigorous international indexing standards and its sustained commitment to excellence and quality as a strategic priority.

This accomplishment crowns a comprehensive institutional process through which the University enhanced its scientific publishing policies, strengthened the independence and structure of the editorial board, elevated peer-review standards, expanded its network of international reviewers and experts, and adopted advanced electronic manuscript management systems. In addition, the journal ensured regular publication cycles and maintained high standards of originality, methodological rigor, and innovation—enabling it to meet Scopus’s exacting evaluation criteria.

PTUK President Prof. Hussein Shanak stated that this achievement reflects the University’s firm belief that scientific research constitutes the core of its mission and a driver of its advancement. He emphasized that inclusion in Scopus is not an end in itself, but rather a step within a broader strategic vision aimed at building a competitive and influential research university capable of shaping knowledge.

Prof. Shanak noted that the journal was managed as a strategic institutional project subject to strict standards and continuous oversight. He affirmed that this milestone is the result of long-term planning and sustained investment in human capital, infrastructure, and sound governance policies. He further highlighted that Scopus indexing strengthens the University’s international rankings and expands opportunities for its researchers and students.

He added that the journal’s entry into Scopus marks an advanced stage in PTUK’s global research presence, enhancing the visibility and citation potential of its scholarly output and reinforcing the confidence of the international academic community in the University as a credible and impactful research partner.

Prof. Shanak also emphasized that this transformation will broaden international research collaboration, attract high-quality studies from distinguished scholars, and increase citation rates, thereby positively influencing the University’s academic standing and its contribution to development and innovation in Palestine and the region.

For his part, Dean of Scientific Research Prof. Jihad As’ad affirmed that achieving Scopus indexing is the outcome of systematic and integrated academic work grounded in strengthened publication policies, governance structures, rigorous peer review, and high-quality scholarly writing. He noted that the University has also employed artificial intelligence tools to support editorial processes, ensure linguistic quality control, detect textual similarity, and enhance manuscript management efficiency in line with international academic publishing standards.

Prof. As’ad concluded that this indexing will significantly expand the reach and impact of the University’s research and open new avenues for cross-border research partnerships. He affirmed that the coming phase will witness continued investment in developing scientific journals, building researchers’ capacities, and strengthening the research environment—consolidating PTUK’s position as a leading and influential center for knowledge production despite prevailing challenges and circumstances.
