PTUK Participates in SHIFT-MED Project Meeting to Advance Green Governance

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie participated in the latest coordination meeting of partners in the SHIFT-MED project, “Shaping the Future of Universities: Parallel Transformations Across the Mediterranean.”

The meeting focused on reviewing progress in Work Package 2 (WP2), which aims to strengthen institutional capacities for green governance within participating higher education institutions.

The University was represented by a team of academic and administrative staff including Prof. Rana Samara, Dr. Ahmad Ammar, Dr. Mahmoud Ismaeel, and Dr. Mutamed Al-Khatib. The delegation reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing sustainability and promoting environmentally responsible administrative and operational practices across its campuses.

During the meeting, partners discussed the completion of sustainability committees within participating institutions, including University of Kairouan, University of Jendouba, the Center of Excellence, An-Najah National University, and PTUK. Discussions also addressed the development of the committees’ terms of reference and the preparation of institutional action plans to guide sustainability initiatives and strengthen environmental governance within partner universities.

Preparations for upcoming capacity-building training sessions under Task 2.2 constituted a central part of the discussions. Key themes include sustainability leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and resource management, all aimed at strengthening institutional leadership in green transformation.

Partners agreed to collaborate on developing a joint planning document outlining proposed training topics, potential speakers, and suggested timelines to ensure the design of a comprehensive training program that meets the needs of participating institutions.

Through its engagement in this international project, PTUK continues to play an active role in advancing green and digital transformation in higher education and in promoting sustainability and environmental governance across Mediterranean partner universities.
