PTUK Hosts Workshop on Enhancing PhD Governance

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, represented by the Faculty of Business and Economics, organized a specialized workshop under the activities of the Erasmus+ funded PhdGOV project, as part of its ongoing efforts to transfer knowledge and strengthen the governance of doctoral programs. The workshop was attended by faculty members from the College.

The workshop aimed to disseminate the knowledge and expertise gained by the University’s delegation during an international training held in Brussels in early 2026, with a focus on European best practices in the development and management of doctoral programs in line with contemporary international standards.

The session was delivered by Dr. Othman Swafta, Dr. Mohammad Salimi, and Dr. Ayman Nazzal, who addressed key themes including an overview of the PhdGOV project, its objectives and partners, transparent admission mechanisms, and structured learning models that integrate coursework with research. The workshop also highlighted approaches to developing doctoral students’ research and leadership competencies.

Further discussions addressed governance frameworks for PhD programs, including systematic student progress monitoring through periodic evaluations, annual reporting, and supervisory committees. Emphasis was also placed on research integrity policies, the regulation of supervisor–student relationships, co-supervision roles, as well as thesis evaluation procedures and defense protocols.

In this context, Project Coordinator Prof. Yousef Daraghmeh noted that this workshop forms part of a series of local and international activities aimed at advancing PhD governance in Palestinian universities in partnership with European institutions. He emphasized the University’s commitment to adopting and localizing global best practices to enhance research output quality and strengthen academic systems.

Prof. Daraghmeh further highlighted that the PhdGOV project serves as a platform for fostering collaboration between Palestinian and European universities through knowledge exchange and the development of modern academic governance models, thereby advancing postgraduate education.

The workshop also underscored the importance of aligning research with industrial and societal needs, promoting collaboration with relevant sectors to translate research ideas into practical applications, and reinforcing the University’s role in community service and sustainable development.

Participants engaged actively in the discussions, emphasizing the importance of sustaining such academic initiatives to advance doctoral programs, adopt innovative supervision and evaluation models, and ensure high-quality research outcomes.

This workshop forms part of PTUK’s broader efforts to strengthen its international presence, advance postgraduate education, and build the capacity of its academic staff, in line with its vision for academic and research excellence.
