Kadoorie Hosts Meeting on Precision Agriculture in Palestine

Agricultural Sciences and Technology College at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie organized an information session about “Boosting Innovation in Education and Research of Precision Agriculture in Palestine,” which is an Erasmus+ Project funded by the European Union and partnered with six Palestinian universities: Al-Quds Open University, An-Najah National University, Al-Istiqlal University, Hebron University, the Intermediate University College in Gaza, and Kadoorie University, in addition to four higher education European institutions: University of Patras, Slovak university of agriculture, Institute of Technology and Business, and University of Ruse.
The Head of Environmental and Sustainable Agriculture Department, Dr. Yehya Isteiteh started the session welcoming the delegates from European and Palestinian partner universities and the agricultural academic staff and students, indicating that the project’s general objectives are to involve Palestinian HEI’s in research movement related to precision agriculture in Europe, and optimize returns on inputs whilst potentially reducing environmental impacts.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Rehil introduced a detailed presentation on the project which helps managing irrigation and fertilizing methods as well as knowing approximate quantities of elements in the soil through the development of precision systems in fields of irrigation, fertilization, big data processing, poultry farms, and plant physiology.
In the context of big data, Dr. Roman Danel, from the Czech Institute of Technology and Business, gave a presentation about the different types of database programming that are best used for agricultural concerns.
