PM Visits PTUK Al-Aroub Commending Its Educational Role

The Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, visited the Al-Aroub branch of Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in Hebron Governorate.
The visit is part of the Palestinian government's commitment to supporting higher education institutions and strengthening their resilience, particularly in targeted areas. It also reflects the national role of Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie as a leading institution in vocational and technical education.

The Prime Minister was welcomed by the university's president, Prof. Hussein Shanak, along with the branch's academic and administrative staff. Accompanying him were the Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Amjad Barham, Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers Dr. Dawas Dawas, Government Communications Director Dr. Mohammed Abu Al-Rub, North Hebron Fatah Secretary Hani Ja’ara, North Hebron Chamber of Commerce President Mahmoud Allan, and University Board of Trustees member Rafiq Abu Manshar.
Representatives of student organizations, the faculty union, department heads, and local community members were also present.

In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized that higher education remains a top priority for the government, describing it as one of the fundamental pillars that have supported the Palestinian people since the Nakba over 76 years ago.

Dr. Mustafa highlighted the significance of Kadoorie University’s presence in Tulkarm and Al-Aroub, noting its role in reinforcing the resilience of Palestinians in sensitive areas and protecting lands from settlement and annexation. He stressed the importance of providing quality, accessible education to Palestinians in the southern region. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing educational programs and facilities to enable universities to fulfill their missions effectively.

Addressing youth unemployment, the Prime Minister underscored the government's efforts to reduce it through economic policies, fostering a safe investment climate aligned with Palestinian national rights, and ending the occupation. He also pointed out the importance of enhancing vocational and technical education programs to equip youth with skills for integration into modern labor markets. He praised Kadoorie University as a pioneering model in this field, offering specialized and applied programs that cater to local and regional job market demands, enabling youth to compete successfully in both local and international arenas.

The Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Amjad Barham, emphasized the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit, noting its direct support for higher education in vital and targeted regions. He praised the university’s unique focus on vocational and applied programs tailored to market needs and its highly competent academic and administrative staff. He called for further development of the Al-Aroub branch, including necessary resources to enhance its role in serving students and the local community while achieving the university's goals of sustainable education and development.

Prof. Hussein Shanak, the university’s president, expressed his delight and gratitude for the Prime Minister's visit, describing it as significant moral support for the university community and students. He highlighted the government's commitment to education despite the challenging circumstances facing the nation.

Prof. Shanak outlined the university’s progress in academic development, aligning with government policies and the Ministry of Higher Education’s aspirations. He noted recent achievements, such as implementing a unified staffing framework, introducing unique academic programs including a master’s in accounting and financial Analysis, and making strides in scientific research. Several university researchers were recognized among Stanford University’s top 2% of global scientists.

The university also expanded international projects to 20 and increased participation in student exchange programs and collaborations with renowned universities in Europe, Turkey, and the Arab world.

The president also identified pressing needs for the Al-Aroub branch, including rehabilitating the main entrance, expanding the campus currently limited to 22 dunams, upgrading academic infrastructure such as labs, workshops, internet networks, and classrooms, and securing financial support for operational and developmental expenses.

In conclusion, Prof. Shanak reaffirmed Kadoorie University’s commitment to advancing higher education in Palestine, fostering governance and innovation, building strategic partnerships, and solidifying its position as a national institution that merges historical roots with a forward-looking vision.
