PTUK Concludes Green Jobs Project with Youth Empowerment and Insights

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie has successfully concluded the activities of the project “Green Jobs and Sustainable Income Opportunities for Young Palestinian Women and Men in the Agribusiness and Food Sector”, implemented in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO, funded by the Government of Denmark.

The project included the participation of several Palestinian universities and close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to empower graduates and link them with the agricultural and food labor market.

It aimed to promote green entrepreneurship and investment, addressing the economic challenges faced by Palestinian youth.

Project Coordinator Dr. Yahya Esteiteh delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the project’s implementation phases, training mechanisms, and employment approaches. He explained that the project targeted recent graduates and students nearing graduation, aiming to build their capacities and enhance their skills in planning and implementing sustainable entrepreneurial ventures.

Dr. Esteiteh noted that the project followed an integrated approach combining practical training with networking opportunities in the private sector. This allowed participants to gain hands-on experience in local companies and institutions, improving their readiness for the labor market. Several graduates were able to develop innovative entrepreneurial ideas and received investment support that enabled them to launch their own businesses.

On behalf of University President Prof. Hussein Shanak, Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Prof. Nawaf Abu Khalaf emphasized that the project reflects the university's commitment to connecting academic knowledge with practical application. He stated that it contributes to developing entrepreneurial personalities capable of leading productive and sustainable initiatives within the Palestinian context.

Prof. Abu Khalaf highlighted the significant participation of female students as a key indicator of the project’s inclusive and biodiversity-conscious approach, representing a genuine form of women’s empowerment in the agricultural sector. The ceremony also featured presentations by several young entrepreneurs who shared their journeys from concept to implementation, detailing how technical and financial support helped them establish their own ventures.

The ceremony concluded with the honoring of partner companies and trainers who hosted and mentored students during their practical placements. Winners of the most impactful entrepreneurial projects were also recognized for the positive contributions they made to their local communities.

The project produced several key recommendations, emphasizing the importance of replicating similar models in other higher education institutions and expanding the beneficiary base to include diverse academic disciplines. Participants also called for increasing funding for entrepreneurial projects and enhancing the role of incubators in developing and following up on business ideas, ensuring long-term sustainability and meaningful investment in youth potential.

The event closed with the university reaffirming its commitment to supporting such initiatives, expressing deep gratitude to the Danish Government for its generous funding, to the FAO for its coordinating efforts, and to all partners for their vital contributions to the success of this pioneering project.
