PTUK Ties Academic Collaboration with American University of Beirut

Through the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology PALAST, Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie PTUK strengthened its regional academic and research presence with a scientific visit by Dr. Mohammad Amer, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, to the American University of Beirut AUB. Dr. Amer served as a visiting professor under the Munib and Angela Masri Institute of Energy and Natural Resources program.

The visit included a series of intensive academic and scientific meetings with distinguished faculty members and researchers at AUB’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture MSFEA, among them Professors Nasrine Ghaddar, Rabih Jabr, Fadl Moukalled, Dani Abou Jaoude, Nassim Dahir, Riad Chehade, and Dean Alan Shihadeh, in addition to a special meeting with Mr. Munib Masri, one of the region’s most prominent supporters of education and research development.

During the visit, Dr. Amer delivered two scientific lectures titled “Electronics Cooling Advancements for Next-Generation Devices” and “Basics to Innovation.” He also toured the university’s electronic and cooling laboratories, participated in discussion sessions, and attended a working dinner with the institute’s steering committee — all of which opened doors for joint research and professional exchange opportunities.

Dr. Amer noted that the visit resulted in several promising areas of future collaboration between PTUK and AUB, including joint supervision of master’s theses, launching a short academic program for Palestinian engineering students with possible tuition waivers, specialized online training courses with accredited certificates, exploring a 1+1 joint master’s program, and enhancing doctoral cooperation through faculty exchanges and shared participation in academic committees.

In this regard, PTUK President Prof. Hussein Shanak affirmed that the visit marks a significant step toward expanding the university’s academic and research impact, stating:
“This collaboration reflects PTUK’s strategic vision to broaden its scientific partnerships and harness technology and artificial intelligence to advance applied education and research. It strengthens our students’ and faculty’s capacities while elevating Palestine’s academic standing regionally and globally.”

He also commended the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology for its pivotal role in coordinating the visit, describing it as “a milestone in PTUK’s ongoing journey toward international academic openness and excellence.”
