PTUK Wins Top Honors in the 2025 Press Freedom Competition

In a remarkable new achievement, Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie PTUK, through its Department of Media Technology, won three major awards in the 2025 Press Freedom Competition held at An-Najah National University in partnership with the University of Oslo Norway, with broad participation from Palestinian universities.

PTUK students secured first place, joint third place, and joint fourth place among the four national awards, following a strong competition among dozens of media projects addressing issues of freedom of expression with high professional and ethical standards.

A total of 13 students from the department participated, presenting creative works that reflected their perspectives on press freedom in various Arab and Western countries, showcasing the skills and critical awareness they gained through intensive training.

The first-place award went to students Shatha Da’meh, Sara Amous, and Reem Najm for their project “Wujud”. The joint third-place award was earned by Hanaa Mar’i, Salsabeel Shawahneh, and Siraj Jaber for their documentary “The Final Bulletin”. Meanwhile, Sajeda Abd al-Nabi, Areen Hamdan, and Qusay al-Karm won the joint fourth-place award for their project “The Game of Truth”.

These successes followed a series of training sessions and workshops aimed at strengthening students’ journalistic and creative skills, supervised by Ms. Amal Murshid, the competition’s mentor at the department.

Ms. Murshid emphasized that the achievement reflects the students’ professional commitment and capacity for free, responsible expression, highlighting the competition as a platform for discovering promising media talents capable of shaping the future of Palestinian journalism.

Mr. Atef Shuqair, Head of the Media Technology Department, expressed pride in this accomplishment, noting that it represents the outcome of collective efforts by faculty and students. He affirmed the department’s mission to prepare qualified, critical, and innovative journalists capable of upholding the values of free and responsible media.

Dr. Reema Duraqmeh, Dean of the College of Arts and Media, congratulated the winning students and supervisors, describing the achievement as a model of applied learning that bridges academic knowledge and community realities, reinforcing PTUK’s leading role in promoting press freedom and youth empowerment.

This milestone continues the department’s commitment to supporting student engagement in national and international initiatives that foster freedom of expression and open pathways toward a promising future in media and communication.
