PTUK Participates in the Kick-Off Meeting of the SHIFT-MED Project in Italy

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) participated in the first kick-off meeting of the project Shaping the Future of Universities: Dual Transitions across the Mediterranean (SHIFT-MED), held at University of Naples Parthenope. The project is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

PTUK was represented by Assistant President for International Academic Cooperation and Project Manager Prof. Rana Samara, along with Dr. Ahmad Ammar from the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences. The meeting brought together partner universities and institutions from Palestine, Tunisia, Turkey, and Italy.

Prof. Samara explained that PTUK’s participation aligns with its strategic vision to advance higher education in Palestine. She noted that the project aims to modernize universities in Palestine and Tunisia by integrating sustainability concepts and digital transformation, in line with the European Green Deal and the Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027).

She added that the initiative seeks to strengthen the institutional capacity of universities to become climate-responsive educational centers that adopt AI-supported learning. This will be achieved through improved governance, updated curricula, enhanced digital inclusion, and cross-border cooperation, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 4, 13, and 17.

Dr. Ammar stated that the kick-off meeting focused on the organizational and implementation aspects of the project. Participants delivered detailed presentations about the partner institutions and clarified their roles within the project framework. Discussions also covered work packages, the implementation plan, and the project roadmap, including quality assurance mechanisms, risk management, and communication and dissemination strategies to ensure effective implementation and the achievement of project objectives.

He further noted that the project offers opportunities to benefit from European expertise provided by partners in Italy and Turkey, while strengthening cooperation with local partners in Tunisia and Palestine. This collaboration will support the development of higher education institutions and promote interdisciplinary education in sustainability within the framework of Erasmus+ projects.

It is worth noting that SHIFT-MED is part of Erasmus+ initiatives aimed at empowering higher education institutions in Palestine and Tunisia and transforming them into green universities. The project promotes AI-based education and the development of green skills and digital competencies among students, contributing to sustainable economic growth.
