PTUK Launches “Baseera” Initiative to Strengthen Community Engagement

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK), represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, launched the “Baseera” initiative as part of its ongoing efforts to advance community-driven and developmental initiatives.

The initiative is supported by the PSSF Foundation under the “Leadership through Giving and Striving” competition, and witnessed broad participation from representatives of official and community institutions, alongside academic and public figures, as well as the Public Relations Committee of the security establishment—reflecting a strong spirit of partnership and integration in serving the local community, particularly displaced students from refugee camps.

The event coordinator, Mr. Khalil Abu Olba, conveyed the University’s greetings and reaffirmed its full support for impactful initiatives that promote community service and volunteerism. He highlighted the vital role of students in leading community action and generating sustainable positive impact, noting that the University’s support aligns with its commitment to social responsibility, especially initiatives that foster solidarity and expand opportunities for meaningful student engagement.

The event was attended by representatives of popular committees and local community institutions, in addition to academics and student volunteers actively involved in implementing the initiative’s activities.

Mr. Faisal Salama, Head of the Popular Committee for Services in Tulkarm Camp, commended the initiative’s organizers for their efforts and for prioritizing displaced populations, emphasizing that such initiatives reflect strong humanitarian awareness and represent a model for purposeful volunteer work.

Similarly, Mr. Nihad Al-Shawish, Head of the Popular Committee for Services in Nur Shams Camp, underscored the importance of such initiatives in supporting children’s mental well-being and equipping them with essential life skills, particularly under current circumstances, thereby contributing to a safe and supportive environment.

Dr. Yahya Fahmawi, representing the administrative body of Shuweika Club, expressed appreciation for the University’s role in strengthening community partnerships and knowledge exchange, stressing the importance of sustaining collaboration and expanding impactful programs that serve diverse segments of society.

At the conclusion of the event, Jawad Qablaoui, Hala Al-Shomali, and Areen Hamdan delivered a presentation introducing the “Baseera” initiative, outlining its objectives and future programs, which focus on psychosocial and educational support for children, and the implementation of interactive activities that create safe spaces. They also called for expanding partnerships to maximize the initiative’s reach and impact in the coming phase.

This initiative aligns with PTUK’s vision of fostering a culture of volunteerism among students and developing their leadership skills, contributing to the preparation of a socially responsible and capable generation.
