Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie (PTUK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), represented by its Director General, Rawan Damen, to strengthen cooperation in the fields of investigative journalism and fact-checking, and to enhance the skills of students and academics in these areas.
In this context, PTUK President Prof. Hussein Shanak welcomed the partnership, expressing appreciation for ARIJ’s efforts and emphasizing the importance of collaboration with specialized media institutions. He highlighted that such partnerships contribute to improving the quality of education and expanding students’ horizons by providing access to advanced professional experiences and practical skills aligned with labor market needs—an approach the university adopts across its academic programs.
Prof. Shanak added that investigative journalism and fact-checking are fundamental pillars of professional media built on accuracy and credibility, particularly amid rapid digital transformations. He stressed the university’s commitment to integrating these concepts into its academic environment to prepare media professionals capable of utilizing modern research and verification tools effectively.
For her part, Rawan Damen explained that the MoU aims to implement joint activities in training and capacity building, as well as knowledge and resource exchange. This includes engaging students and faculty in specialized training sessions and workshops, and providing access to ARIJ’s online academy, which offers dozens of courses and over 200 hours of educational content in investigative journalism, fact-checking, data journalism, and artificial intelligence, in addition to supporting research and organizing specialized media events.
She further noted that this partnership reflects ARIJ’s commitment to building strategic collaborations with universities to promote a culture of investigative journalism and fact-checking, and to enable students and academics to access specialized learning resources and participate in advanced professional training environments.
The signing was attended on behalf of the university by Dr. Rima Draghmeh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences; Dr. Nael Salman, Assistant President for Information Technology Affairs; and Dr. Osama Abdullah, lecturer in the Department of Media Technology.
Under the agreement, ARIJ will provide educational and training resources and grant access to its digital platforms, facilitating participation in its programs and forums, while PTUK will support the implementation of activities, encourage student engagement, and promote research aligned with the partnership’s focus areas.
