PTUK President Receives Civil Defense Director General to Discuss Enhancing Cooperation

Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie President, Prof. Hussein Shanak, received the Director General of the Civil Defense, Major General Akram Thawabteh, along with the accompanying delegation and Civil Defense crews in Tulkarm Governorate, as part of efforts to strengthen joint cooperation between the two sides. The meeting was attended by the university’s vice presidents, assistants, deans of colleges, and a number of academic and administrative staff members.

During the meeting, Prof. Shanak presented an overview of the university, highlighting its distinction in scientific research and international rankings, in addition to its educational, community, and national services through its branches in Ramallah and Al-Arroub. He also pointed to the university’s affordable tuition fees and scholarship opportunities for students.

Prof. Shanak noted that the university’s academic and administrative staff actively participate in volunteer activities related to civil defense and training on the use of public safety equipment and emergency preparedness tools, enhancing the university’s readiness to respond to emergencies.

He also praised the ongoing cooperation with the Civil Defense, particularly in the areas of public safety programs, volunteer work, and training students and university staff through the Deanship of Community Development and Service. He stressed the importance of spreading a culture of public safety within local community institutions and emphasized the university’s central role in promoting this awareness.

For his part, Major General Akram Thawabteh commended the university’s reputation and resilience in facing challenges, praising the diversity of its academic programs and its focus on practical and field-based skills, as well as the continuous growth in student enrollment.

Thawabteh also highlighted the Civil Defense’s direction toward developing a new strategy aimed at enhancing community awareness, spreading public safety culture, and building a more resilient society through specialized academic and training programs, particularly in public safety engineering, database development, and preparing individuals to deal with civil risks.

The delegation also toured the equipment and tools that had recently been received and delivered to the university for emergency use, emphasizing the importance of strengthening PTUK’s preparedness and raising its level of readiness through its academic and administrative staff.
