Kadoorie and Anabta Municipality Start DECOST Compost Production Unit

As part of the decentralized project activities for organic manure production, Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie and Anabta Municipality organized an inauguration ceremony to begin using the DECOST compost production unit for societal and domestic uses. The ceremony was attended officially by the Tulkarem Governor, Isam Abu Baker, the University President, Prof. Nouraldin Abualrob, the Anabta Mayor, eng. Fadel Fuquha as well as a crowd from local community institutions and other related organizations. Anabta Mayor delivered a welcoming speech and expressed his thankfulness to Kadoorie University for the great efforts exerted in such pioneering project that serves the local community in terms of reducing the organic waste and turning it into fertilizers throughout using a well-manufactured seven-cubic-meter unit. Prof. Abualrob thanked the project’s organizers for reaching out outstanding results that contribute to solving environmental issues faced by the local authorities particularly the solid waste management, explaining that it’s been one of those projects, managed by PTUK, that are ascribed to practical application which fulfils the university’s message towards the community service. In this context, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Tahseen Sayara introduced a minute detail explanation about the project that initially included in the first stage the distribution of 400 domestic units for organic production in the towns of Anabta and Kafer Romman which are now being operated and used achieving success, and that the second stage is represented in the implementation of the project by the PTUK and Anabta staff according to the plan. “The project also provided the municipality with equipment that helps the implementation of the project and the development of a smart mobile application for the project management and the solid waste management in the town of Anabta,” he said. Dr. Sayara also added that a market study about compost production and its economic benefits has been prepared to meet the requirements of the recycling the organic waste and production of the compost for agricultural different uses.
