Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie concluded participation, represented by the President Prof. Hussein Shanak, in the Fourth Turkish-Arab University Congress on Higher Education held at Istanbul Aydin University in Turkey on February 26-28, 2024.

The conference was attended by over 150 university presidents from across the Arab world and Turkey, with the presence of the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, and the Secretary-General of Turkish Universities and the President of the Turkish Higher Education Council.

Prof. Shanak stated that the international conference addressed several important topics, including the role of universities in artificial intelligence and digital transformation, as well as globalization and academic and student exchange.
He emphasized that the conference provided an opportunity for Arab and Turkish universities to exchange experiences, knowledge, and innovation in various fields to enhance academic and cultural cooperation between the two sides.

Prof. Shanak also explained that during the conference, there was a discussion on the axis of academic and research exchange between faculty members, as well as ways to activate student mobility between Arab and Turkish universities and establish joint programs for undergraduate and graduate studies.

The University President further noted that Palestine and the besieged Gaza, with its people and universities, imposed their presence on the conference sessions, where the extent of destruction in universities and higher education institutions in the Gaza Strip was reviewed. This underscores the centrality of the Palestinian issue on the international level and reflects the importance of ensuring Palestinian representation in such forums.

In turn, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, stated that this conference is an important step in enhancing cultural and academic cooperation between the Arab and Turkish worlds, serving as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in scientific research and curriculum development.

Salama added that Israel has carried out deliberate strikes on universities in the Gaza Strip and killed its faculty members to eradicate higher education institutions in the sector, calling for concerted efforts by all countries worldwide to restore work in higher education institutions in the Gaza Strip, which have been subjected to brutal attacks by occupation forces.

Salama also called for supporting the higher education sector in the Gaza Strip through the exchange of experiences and knowledge and providing financial and technical support to universities in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation between universities and educational institutions to revive universities in the sector. These efforts are seen as a significant step towards building a better future for higher education in Gaza and improving education and development opportunities in the sector.

It is worth mentioning that on the sidelines of the conference, two agreements were signed between Kadoorie University and Istanbul Aydin University. The first agreement focused on academic and research cooperation and the development of joint projects between the two universities, while the second agreement included the student exchange program.
