Solar Energy Project
Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie has recently planned to install a pilot project with a total rating of
about 500 kWp. This solar station will partly meet the expansion in the electrical energy requirements. The
need for this station arises as the Municipality cannot provide the University with the additional requested
electrical power and the cost will be about 500,000 $ where other solar stations will be installed in following steps.
Installing the first part of the project, PTUK has achieved outstanding developments and a new era of
change has been conceptualized. A new Master Plan has been drawn and strategic goals have also been
developed. The Palestinian Government has recently approved to spread the technical services of PTUK
across the country. The mergence of two new branches in Ramallah and Alaroub – Hebron with the Home
University in Tulkarm was the initial start of the service. Consequently, the project proposal is now com-
prehensively redesigned so that all three branches could develop new solar cells to be installed in the
rooftops of PTUK different buildings. The aim is to produce what covers almost 40% of PTUK’s consumption
of electric power. It is worth mentioning though that PTUK was able to start the first phase of producing
renewable energy covering 30% during the last year with its own budget.
Now, new buildings are being constructed and more of the same available areas are to be covered with
solar panels. Our vision is to reach a point where PTUK suffers no more electric cutoffs, and to produce
competitive, clean and reliable energy.
